Unsealed court documents have reportedly revealed Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell was accused of engaging in sexual relations with girls as young as 15.
The trove of documents related to a now-settled defamation lawsuit filed by one of Epstein’s alleged victims, Virginia Roberts Giuffre.
Maxwell lost her bid to keep the “embarrassing” court documents a secret with dozens of documents now publicly released by a US Court on Thursday (local time).
According to Sky News, the documents include accusations Maxwell engaged with sexual relations with girls as young as 15.
There are also emails from Epstein to Maxwell telling her she had “done nothing wrong”, the Herald Sun reports.
The email appears to contradict evidence from her legal team last month that she hadn’t spoken to Epstein for a decade before his death last year.
Maxwell’s lawyers had argued the information contained in the 80 documents would cause “embarrassment” as they were “extremely personal” in nature.
The 58-year-old was arrested in July and has been charged with conspiracy to entice minors to travel in order to engage in illegal sex acts, transportation of minors for criminal sexual activity and perjury.
She has pleaded not guilty to helping Epstein recruit and abuse three girls from 1994 to 1997, and is scheduled to face trial next July.
Epstein was found dead in his cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He had also pleaded not guilty.
Giuffre claimed in the previous civil suit that Maxwell recruited her to be a sexual servant to Epstein.
She said the couple pressured her into having sex with men including Britain’s Prince Andrew, US politicians, wealthy entrepreneurs, a famous scientist and fashion designer.
Prince Andrew has denied any wrongdoing.
