In our new post-COVID world, wearing a mask is strongly advised and having to tolerate your glasses fogging up seemed like a necessary annoyance … until now.
Most people have been putting up with foggy specs since the beginning of the pandemic, as wearing a mask directs your breath upward instead of in front of you.
Two doctors have now shared some solid advice – straight from the medical journal Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England – suggesting a really simple fix for defogging your glasses.
And it only takes a few minutes!
Step 1. Wash your hands
In case you missed the memo, washing your hands is super important. So in case you haven’t practiced enough over the last few months, try it one more time. Scrub for 20 seconds with soap and water before rinsing.
Step 2. Lather up your lenses
While you have some soap and water handy, wet your glasses and rub a little soap on the lenses. Be gentle and thorough, but careful not to scratch your lenses.
Step 3. Rinse
Wash all that soap off your lenses, ensuring no suds are left behind.
Step 4. Dry
Gently dry your glasses with a clean towel or lens cloth (avoiding any material that may scratch your delicate lenses).
And voila! The soap and water should act as a coat or film, clinging to your lenses and reducing surface tension, thus keeping them condensation-free.
