Man wanted over graffiti at Melbourne kindergarten

An inner Melbourne kindergarten has been sprayed with “sickening” anti-Semitic graffiti.

A man has been accused of spray painting the road in Ashworth St in Middle Park about 3.30pm on June 16 before he walked to the Middle Park kindergarten on Mills St.

He then sprayed a Star of David and the vilifying words “4th Reich” in green paint on a brick wall at the kindergarten.

The vandalism was discovered by a man walking in the area the following afternoon.

Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Dr Dvir Abramovich said the graffiti was “despicable”.

“To defile a place where children play and learn with neo-Nazi vandalism is beyond words and beyond contempt,” he said.

“This senseless defacement is a vile attack on the core values and spirit of the kindergarten, a place where students, family and staff of all ethnic and religious backgrounds are welcomed.

“I hope that those cowards who committed this sickening outrage are identified and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

South Melbourne police are investigating and have released an image of a man that they wish to speak to.

He’s described as caucasian with dark hair and was wearing a grey jumper, black pants and carrying a black bag.

At the time the image was taken he was barefooted and carrying black and white shoes.

Dr Abramovich said unfortunately this type of graffiti was becoming part of a disturbing national trend.

“Collectively we must reject these ugly acts and the genocidal agenda they represent,” he said.

“Melbourne is a city of strength and pluralism, and united we will fight back against this filth which is invading our neighbourhoods at an alarming rate.”

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
