A paedophile teacher who had sex with a 13-year-old boy has filed for divorce against her loyal husband who stood by her side throughout her trial.
Brittany Zamora, 29, was jailed for 20 years, but she is now believed to have been grooming a second child victim, promising to send him nudes and asking about his genitalia, The Sun reports.
The former Arizona teacher has now also filed for divorce against her husband, Daniel, less than a year into her sentence, relinquishing her rights to the family home and shared properties.
In the divorce documents, she wrote that “our marriage is broken beyond repair (‘irretrievably broken’) and there is no hope of reconciliation”.
The pair had been together since they were 16 and he remained completely loyal to her throughout the prosecution.
It’s unclear whether Daniel Zamora knew the full extent of what was happening between his wife and the student prior to her arrest and conversations that included the victim’s father indicated that Mr Zamora thought the relationship wasn’t physical according to AZ Central.
Mr Zamora was never charged for crimes related to the case, yet he remained by his wife’s side even after she admitted to having sex with the boy in court.
During the investigation, Mr Zamora allegedly called the victim’s father in defence of his wife despite learning of his wife’s crime to say that Brittany had made a mistake, but that she loved children.
He reportedly asked the victim’s family to handle the situation out of court, adding that they should “meet up” and “settle this”, according to court documents.
At the time of her arrest, he told cops: “Brittany is an adult. She’s the best, the best person I’ve ever known.”
Mr Zamora was also sued by the parents of Brittany’s victim for failing to alert authorities after he learned of the ongoing molestation, which was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
A police report alleged that Mr Zamora coached his wife on how to handle their investigation during an initial phone call between her and her victim’s parents following the discovery of her illicit messages to their son.
Mr Zamora was allegedly texting his wife during the call to the parents. He encouraged her to cry, apologise frequently and do whatever she could to seem helpless during the call.
He advised her to insist on an in-person meeting just in case the father was recording, according to police reports.
He texted: “Don’t admit to any relationship.
“Because we both know there isn’t one and nothing happened. Just stupid fantasy text that went too far.”
He then reportedly urged her to hang up the phone when he felt the conversation had gone on too long.
His text messages went unanswered when she was arrested shortly after the conversation, according to AZ Central.
A SECOND VICTIM
Brittany was originally accused of 15 counts, including eight of sexual misconduct with a minor after she twice admitted having sex with the boy.
In 2019 she pleaded guilty to sexual conduct with a minor, public sexual indecency and molestation of a child while teaching at Las Brisas Elementary School in Goodyear.
During class, Zamora asked the friend of her first victim whether he was circumcised, a police report said.
She showed him pictures of male genitalia on her phone when he said he didn’t understand the question.
The second victim’s parents decided not to press charges.
Brittany Zamora was arrested in March 2018 after she groomed her first victim via her school’s social media app and the boy’s family found the explicit images and nudes she sent to their son.
In X-rated messages, she told the first child that he gets “sexier to me every day” – adding: “I want you every day with no time limit.”
They also swapped love letters and passed each other notes, leading to most pupils believing they were “dating” due to his straight As despite doing no work.
Zamora then allegedly had several trysts with the boy – including in her classroom as another student acted as a lookout. The lookout described the situation as “weird” and “crazy” adding “she’s not a good person”.
She allegedly had sex with the teen at least four times between February 1 and March 8, 2018, including one occasion when she went to his grandparent’s house to have sex with him in her car.
During her trial, Zamora’s lawyer, Belen Olmedo Guerra, branded her client’s victim “obsessive” and “very aggressive” in a statement given to reporters.
However, in a police report, one of the parents said: “(Victim) said he was talking to a girl he liked and he told his friend about it.
“Somehow Brittany found out that (victim) liked this girl and told him that he couldn’t talk to this girl. Brittany also said that, if he dated the girl, she would get other girls to beat her up.”
The victim’s parents are seeking $2.5 million in damages against the school and Brittany Zamora.
