Police allege high learner 45km/h over limit

A learner driver has lost her license after police allegedly caught her speeding almost 50km/h over the limit while high on marijuana.

The car was travelling along the Augusta Highway near Hope Gap, in the state’s Mid North region, at 146km/h about 6.15pm on Saturday, police allege.

A SA Police patrol stopped the vehicle, which was supposed to be travelling at 100 km/h.

The 19-year-old driver from Woodcroft then submitted a screening test and tested positive to cannabis.

She was fined more than $2200 and lost her licence on the spot for six months.

“Police will continue to take action against irresponsible drivers who make poor choices and put themselves and other road users at risk,” SA Police said in a statement.

“Speeding is a major contributing factor in serious and fatal collisions along with drug driving.”
