Truck smashes into Richmond Station rail bridge

A truck has ploughed into a rail bridge in Melbourne’s inner-city causing lengthy train delays and traffic chaos.

Two of the four northbound lanes on Punt Road closed after the truck smashed into the Richmond Station rail bridge about 3.50pm on Wednesday.

Traffic stretched back all the way to Commercial Road in Prahran as police responded to the incident.

It took about 30 minutes before all lanes reopened, but traffic delays remain.

Passengers on the Sandringham line have also been warned to experience delays of up to 25 minutes.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid Punt Road.

No one was injured in the incident.
